Administration Underestimates Spill?

Julia Newman

On October 6, 2010 a report from a national panel investigating the government’s response to the British Petroleum (BP) oil spill, said that President Obama’s Administration underestimated the level of disaster. In this report it is stated the administration had all the information on the spill yet choose to downplay the severity and keep the information from the public. The report criticized the government for giving the public inaccurate projections in regard to how many gallons of oil had spilled and had been cleaned up. Government officials claim that the discrepancy in numbers has not affected the efforts to clean up the oil in the Gulf.

  • British Petroleum (BP) oil spill: The spill occurred on April 20, 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico, releasing about 62,000 barrels of oil per day for about 3 months.
