Oil Moratorium Lifted
Julia Newman
This week, the Obama Administration has decided to lift the moratorium on oil and gas drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Michael Bromwich, director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement, insists that there have been developments in drilling safety with regards to spills, which in turn, have reduced the risks of future problems. Critics who oppose the lift include environmentalists and others concerned with the April 20th oil spill in the Gulf that killed 11 people. The moratorium was instated in May after the spill. The Administration cites employment of oil workers as a reason for lifting the moratorium.
