March a Month for Job Growth
Paul C. Kadzielski
162,000 new jobs were created in the United States in March 2010. This is the largest increase in 3 years and most of it was in companies owned and operated by private citizens as opposed to the government. The current unemployment rate is at approximately 9.7%. In March of 2009 when the recession was still relatively new, unemployment was at 8.6%. In March of 2008 before the recession unemployment was at 5.1%. The unemployed pool also increased in the month of March by 134,000 jobs. The average wage dropped by 2 cents in the month of March to $22.47 per hour. However, the amount of people between the ages of 18 and 24 with a job has been growing since January. If this trend continues LMU students graduating in May should have a slightly easier time finding a job than those who graduated in May of 2009.
