Bergamot Station

Meg Patch

Pull out your berets and hipster shoes! Los Angeles is one of the biggest art centers in the United States, and Bergamot Station, located in Santa Monica, is a big part of what makes the Los Angeles art scene what it is. Bergamot Station dates back to 1875 when it was a train station stop on the Red Line trolley, which ran from Los Angeles to the Santa Monica Pier. After the trolley cars stopped running in 1953 the station was made into a celery packing operation, then an ice-making plant and a factory for the manufacture of water heaters. The best part about Bergamot Station is that you do not have to drive all around Los Angeles to go from gallery to gallery. Instead, all the galleries are in one location and you can spend a leisurely afternoon walking around and enjoying, admiring and learning about art. The galleries are open from 11am to 6pm Tuesday through Saturdays and closed Sundays, Mondays, and all government holidays. Parking is ample and FREE!
