Olvera Street
Meg Patch
If you were looking for an activity that involves being outdoors and enjoying the vibrant Mexican culture, then exploring Olvera Street would be an excellent weekend outing. Olvera Street is the birthplace of the City of Los Angeles, also known as El Pueblo Historic Monument. It can be described as a colorful village with many historic buildings and a traditional style plaza area. Walk through the marketplace and look for handcrafted Mexican souvenirs and enjoy taquitos or tacos at outdoor cafes found throughout. On the weekends there is outdoor entertainment including bolero musicians, Mariachis bands, Aztec Indians and folklorico dancing. Another great part about Olvera Street is that you can take free tours. Ándale! Get out to Olvera Street!
