S.M.S- An Archive of the 60s

Meg Patch

At California State University Long Beach the Graduate Program in Museum Studies is currently putting on the S.M.S or Shit Must Stop exhibit, which is a limited edition series of work created in 1968 by over eighty artists including Marcel Duchamp and Yoko Ono. The work presented embodies the discord of the art world during the late 1960s when cultural norms were being challenged and broken. The CSULB website calls the work a symbol for “a monumental shift in thought--- a reification of concepts.” This show is going from March 11th to April 18th with a Public Reception from 5-7PM on March 11th (the curatorial walkthrough begins at 5PM). The 1960s was a very important period for art that is beneficial to learn about for all fields of study. So get out there and soak it up!
