Elections in California

The most recent Rasmussen poll on the 2010 gubernatorial elections in California shows how the candidates would fare against each other if the election were held today. The candidates for governor as of now are Meg Whitman, Steve Poizner, and Jerry Brown. It is still up to speculation whether or not Dianne Feinstein will decide to enter the governor’s race in California. Meg Whitman, the former CEO of Ebay and Jerry Brown, the California Attorney General are the expected to be the top contenders.


  • Gubernatorial: of or relating to a governor

Background:

  • Steve Poizner serves as State Insurance Commissioner.
  • Dianne Feinstein currently serves as a California Senator.
  • Gavin Newsom was expected to be the top primary opponent to Jerry Brown, but dropped out of the race several months ago.

General Election

  • Meg Whitman 43% vs Jerry Brown 43%
  • Meg Whitman 43% vs Dianne Feinstein 45%
  • Steve Poizner 34% vs Jerry Brown 46%
  • Steve Poizner 36% vs Dianne Feinstein 48%

Republican Primary:

  • Meg Whitman 55% vs Steve Poizner 16%


Democrats Primary:

  • Jerry Brown is the sole candidate to garner significant support, assuming Senator Dianne Feinstein will not run.
