9th Annual Lantern Festival
Meg Patch
Get out there this weekend and experience something you may never have experienced before. On Saturday, March 6th, the Chinese American Museum is putting on their annual Lantern Festival. It is from 12-7PM and admission is free! Every year they recreate a traditional Chinese village street fair featuring fun things such as lantern displays, acrobatic and lion dance performances, and arts and crafts booths. Later on in the evening there is a lantern parade where children and their families are welcome to march with the performers in a route that circles the entire park. Who doesn’t want to make origami, build kites and learn Chinese calligraphy? Now is your chance! This event marks a popular holiday in the Chinese culture. It occurs on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month to mark the closing of Chinese New Year festivities. It is a time when people wish for peace and prosperity for the coming year. Check out the Chinese American Museum’s website for more detailed information on this event. The event takes place at El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument.
